How to Clean a Contact Lens Case

Everyone who wears contacts knows how necessary contact lens cases are. These cases keep your contact lenses safe and clean.

Thus, you need to do a few things to keep your case in tip-top shape. If you’re wondering how to clean a contact lens case, we’ve got some tips for you.

Read on for our complete guide on how to clean contact lens cases and keep your eyes safe.

Empty the Solution

If the old solution is still in the case, you should replace it with a fresh one. When pitching the solution, make sure to tilt the case so that the solution runs out and does not become too full.

Ensure that the surface area inside the case is adequately dried with a lens cloth. Afterward, fill the case halfway with fresh contact lens solution, swish the case around for at least 10 seconds, and empty the solution with any debris.

Rinse the Case

To rinse the case: run tap water over the inside and outside until it has been thoroughly saturated. Use your thumb to cover the holes on one side of the case and shake out the water until the case is empty. Be sure to repeat this process for the other side of the case. Place the case upright on a tissue to drain the excess water.

Scrub the Case

Scrubbing your contact lens case is a critical step in your contact lens cleaning process. Before scrubbing, you have to disassemble your contact case.

Place three to four drops of antiseptic solution into the contact lens case and scrub the inside and outside with your fingertips. After scrubbing the case, rinse it with cold running water and let it air dry.

While scrubbing, never use a cloth, paper towels, or any other abrasive materials, as these can lead to scratches which can cause bacteria to grow in your contact lens case.

Air Dry

After rinsing, these pieces should be air-dried on a clean, lint-free surface like a paper towel. It needs not to rub the cases when drying, as this will cause scratches and abrasions.

You should do air drying for five minutes or longer until all surfaces are completely dry. If lint or dirt particles are still present on the case, you can wipe it down with a clean, lint-free cloth to remove any residue.

Store Properly

After it is dry, store it in a clean, dry place away from dust and other debris. Do not store it near the bathroom sink or anywhere it may come into contact with contaminants like soap, makeup, or facial lotions.

Store the case upside down so that any built-up bacteria inside the case is not spread while opening and closing. However, when the time comes that your case needs to be replaced or perhaps the whole contact kit, don’t just get any kit without consulting your eye doctor. If you happen to be in the area, try checking a Layton eye doctor.
